Use Techniques Like The Donald When Looking For Satellite Deals

You can spend a fortune or save a fortune on a satellite TV deal. Finding good satellite deals is not quite on the same scale as creating luxury hotels and condominiums, but the techniques The Donald used to make his fortune can still help you save money on entertainment.

Arranging the Deal

Here are three steps so you can get the best satellite TV deal:

-- Planning: The best way to plan out your deal is to analyze your needs. Track what you and your family watches on TV for a week and see what channels are available on the basic packages versus premium channels. You may actually save money by subscribing only to the basic package and watching a movie or sports event on pay per view or On Demand. For those who love news and shows on PBS, free-to-air programming with an antenna may be all they need but for houses full of sports fans, you'll need something a little more sophisticated.

-- Research: Research available deals on satellite carefully. As well as checking out internet sites and reviews, you should ask your friends and neighbors about their experiences with different providers. Investigate equipment, content and service pricing - they all matter. As well as checking price, you should look at local quality of reception and service. Read the fine print carefully to avoid hidden fees.

-- Negotiating: In the first chapter of l The Art of the Deal, Donald Trump describes how much of his day is spent on the phone. You won't be able to get the best deal with one phone call, you'll need to make several as you shop around. Spending a few hours making calls can actually save you hundreds of dollars over the long run. Just make sure to have something productive or entertaining to do while you are on hold - so you don`t take a bad offer simply out of frustration with waiting.

Closing the Deal

You do not have millions at stake in your satellite TV deal, but in this economy, every dollar counts. Follow The Donald`s principles to succeed in your TV investment:

-- Protect the downside and the upside will take care of itself: Make sure you look for hidden fees and what penalties there are if you have to cancel.

-- Contain the costs: Only buy what you can afford. Don`t splurge on premium channels you won`t watch.

-- Maximize your options: Think creatively about how the best deal can be packaged with a mix of basic, premium, and pay-per-view content.

-- Fight back: If you get an aggressive sales rep, either be prepared to say "No" a lot or call back and talk to one who is more attuned to your needs instead of pushing you into making a premature choice.

-- Have Fun: Once you've found your best satellite deals, enjoy them with friends and family.

Finding the best satellite TV deals won't be a headache if you use the techniques of The Donald.

CBS Look To Tap Into Hulu Content Deals

While Hulu recently announced their plans to make all potential users show proof of membership to a cable or satellite TV service before permitting entry, linear TV network CBS have claimed that they might be interested at forming content partnerships with the online service.

It is thought that CBS are using the news of Hulu becoming a more ‘controlled’ online service as incentive to finally throw their hat into the ring on Hulu with more committed deals (compared to going through their co-owned subsidiary The CW) after a long time of deriding the decisions of other companies to sign content deals.

The network are known for high-profile scripted series such as Two and a Half Men, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, How I Met Your Mother, and Hawaii Five-0, so a potential move of licencing in broadcast network content could be a big draw for Hulu.

CBS president/CEO Leslie Moonves said of the plans: “We will take a look at it under the authentication model [of Hulu]. Right now we are very pleased with our digital strategy without Hulu. We are doing extremely well being nonexclusive with the Netflix and the Amazon deals and, more importantly, with our CBS.com site, where we keep 100 per cent, 100 cents on the dollar. We will, of course, have a conversation with them (an authentication-focused Hulu). On the CW side, we are doing business with Hulu Plus right now. So we do talk to them, but right now we are very happy with our strategy.”

While a further deal with CBS would not nesecarrily be vital for Hulu, who as well as producing original series, also feature licenced content from the likes of Fox, ABC, NBC, and Nickelodeon, it would be seen as a potential boost if they can find the right price, but will their potential audience be locked out under the online streamer’s new proposals?
